Application Instructions

Application Process

  1. Applicants must submit an online application to Bard Conservatory by January 1. Note that all forms and prescreening audio or video materials should be uploaded through the online application.
  2. Apply for scholarships. Please click here for details on applying for scholarships and graduate assistantships.
  3. Prescreening results will be e-mailed to applicants by January 15.
  4. When you are awarded an audition please then mail your official academic transcripts. 
  5. Live auditions (by invitation only) will take place the first week of March.
  6. Admission decisions will be sent by April 1.
  7. Admitted students must respond to admission offers by May 1.

A complete online application will contain:

1. A prescreening recording (audio or video)
Repertoire requirements for individual instruments can be found here.
2. Two letters of recommendation
In the application, when prompted, please enter the recommender’s name and e-mail. The recommender will receive an e-mail that details how to submit the recommendation online.

We will also accept letters sent by mail on official forms. The letters should be signed across the sealed flap of the envelope, and sent directly to:

3. Academic transcript(s) from most recent school(s) attended
Please request an official copy of your academic transcript only after you have received your official audition invitation, and no later than February 15, 2016.

4. Resume
Please upload a musical resume describing your performance experience. This document must be in English. Please include information such as:
  • educational history
  • musical awards and honors (include dates)
  • solo and chamber music performance experience
  • master classes, music festival participation (include dates)
5. A nonrefundable application fee of $75
Payable online with a valid credit card or electronic check.
