Summer Programs

The Conductors Institute of the Bard College Conservatory of Music offers a variety of study combinations that allow students to tailor their own programs. For more information about individual programs including application procedures and tuition please click below:
- Visual Score Study/Baton Placement and Body Movement Technique (June 23–27)
- Discovery Program (July 7–18)
- Composer-Conductor Program (July 21– August 1)
- Conducting Program for Fellows and Colleagues (June 30 – July 25, available as a two week session or as a full four week session.)
Repertoire
Institute repertoire will include:
- Beethoven (Egmont Overture and Symphony No. 3, "Eroica")
- Debussy (La mer)
- Dvorák (Symphony No. 9, "From the New World")
- Mahler (Symphony No. 6, "Tragic")
- Mendelssohn (Violin Concerto in E Minor)
- Mozart (Symphony No. 38, "Prague")
- Schumann (Symphony No. 4)
- Shostakovitch (Violin Concerto)
- Strauss (Till Eulenspiegel)
Features and General Information
- Evening Lectures Internationally known scholars, composers, and conductors present regularly scheduled evening lectures.
- Public Concerts Fellows and Colleagues conduct the Institute Orchestra in weekly "pass the baton" concerts.
- Videotaping All conducting sessions are videotaped for self-assessment and evaluation. (Participants are expected to provide blank videotapes.)
- Scholarships A limited number of merit-based scholarships are available.
- Scores Participants are expected to bring their own scores for Institute repertoire. Scores for works by guest composers will be available for purchase.
- Housing On-campus housing is provided at the following rates: $120 per week for a single room; $100 per person per week for a double room.
- Dining Dining and kitchen facilities are available on campus.
- Refunds No refunds will be issued after the start of the Institute.
