Contemporaneous to Premiere New Opera, Stranger Love, at PROTOTYPE Festival in NYC this January
From Contemporaneous Co-Artistic Director, David Bloom '13:
"Next month, Contemporaneous will be featured on the PROTOTYPE Festival, New York's renowned festival of new opera. We will be performing the world premiere of the first act of Stranger Love, a massive opera with music by my co-artistic director and longtime closest collaborator, Dylan Mattingly, and a libretto by our dear friend, the literary polymath Thomas Bartscherer. Three years in the making, Stranger Love celebrates the incredible joy of life, telling both a love story and the story of love. The four-hour first act stands on its own as a complete story that immerses listeners in a timeless and rapturous experience. Having delved into the score over the past few months, I have been moved by its sheer ecstasy.
The performances on January 16 and 17 at Roulette in Brooklyn are not-to-be-missed and represent a momentous step forward in the opera's development toward a full premiere. We are looking to raise $20,000 for this project, and I hope that you will consider making a donation to our campaign. A gift in any amount will breathe life into the music that we are most excited to share with you. Please visit our campaign page to find out more and support Stranger Love; if you prefer to give by mail, you can find more information here. This project is really important to me, and your contribution would mean a lot.
It has been nearly eight years since since Dylan and I founded Contemporaneous, launching into the thrilling world of yet-to-be-created music. We set in motion a model that has only grown more vital with every new project: seeking and sharing music that we love, making composers' wildest dreams our very lifeblood, and using music to inspire young people to be passionate artists and empathetic citizens. There will always be a future in this journey, and we are incredibly grateful to our amazing audience for igniting and motivating every detail of what we do.
Thank you so much for your support!
If you are in New York this winter, I very much hope to see you at one (or all!) of the following performances"
