Matthew Ross

Matthew Ross Described as "a fantastic player who clearly communicates some great ideas” (Jonathan Keeble, international soloist), New York based flutist Matthew Ross has won prizes in the Raleigh, Byron Hester, Mid-South, South Carolina, Myrna Brown, and Yamaha Young Artist competitions. In September 2017, Matthew became a member of The Orchestra Now (TŌN), performing at venues such as Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, Jazz at Lincoln Center, and Alice Tully Hall in addition to frequent performances at TŌN’s resident space, the Richard B. Fisher Center in the Hudson Valley. He has also performed with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, Cincinnati Opera, Queen City Chamber Opera, Dayton Philharmonic, Kentucky Symphony and National Music Festival Orchestra. Matthew has been a faculty member at the Oyster Bay Music Festival and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music’s Preparatory division. He was asked to premiere Glen Cortese’s work “…on further reflection” at the 2012 National Flute Association convention in Las Vegas, and returned as a featured presenter and recitalist at last summer’s NFA convention in Minneapolis. Matthew holds a BM and MM from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music as well as a Certificate of Exceptional Achievement from the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division, and his primary teachers are Randy Bowman, Heather Verbeck, Joan Voorhees, and Lauren Ausubel.
