Bard College Student Handbook

First-Year Electives

A student selects three elective courses in each semester of the first year (the fourth course each semester is the First-Year Seminar). The central purpose of the elective track is to allow students to take courses in fields in which they know they are interested and, perhaps more important, to experiment with unfamiliar areas of study. The electives help them expand their range of interests and knowledge and narrow the choices from which to select a major.
