Prioritize and Search
Finalize your priority checklist, and start searching for your place!
- Familiarize yourself with the local area. The majority of off-campus students choose to live close to the College in Red Hook, Tivoli, or Rhinebeck. Students living in Germantown, Elizaville, Hudson, or Kingston should consider the potential academic and social impacts living farther from campus.
- Create an apartment selection checklist. This checklist will assist you in evaluating your needs and whether the properties you are considering will meet them.
Sustainability in the Local Community
We recognize that students who move off campus need access to resources that allow them to engage in sustainable behaviors when not on campus. While many on campus resources are only for on campus residents, it is possible to find similar programs off campus.
It is Dutchess County law to recycle.
Trash and Recycling
All Town of Red Hook residents (includes Village of Tivoli & Red Hook) can access the Red Hook Recycle Center – you can dispose of garbage there for $3.50, and recycling is free. You must purchase a $15 permit at Town Hall to access the Recycle Center.
If you live in the Village of Red Hook:
You can purchase garbage stickers at the Village Hall or Red Hook Natural Foods for your garbage pick-up. Large tags (30gal.) are $4.00 each and small tags (10gal.) are $2.00 each. Garbage pick-up is every Tuesday at 6:00 am, with the exception of holidays. All recycling is picked up on Tuesdays. Recycling is free with the purchase of our garbage stickers.
Electronics can be recycled through Best Buy in Kingston.
Materials can be re-used through bartering or donations to the Salvation Army or Goodwill, Hudson Valley E-cycle or through the Bard Bartering Community.
