Course Work
All Bard Early College students enroll as half-time undergraduates, completing two courses per semester for four consecutive semesters. All students enroll in the First-Year Seminar, an interdisciplinary introduction to college writing and analysis. Concurrently, students choose an elective course each semester from the natural sciences, social sciences, and arts/humanities. Recent course offerings have included: Bioethics, Social Policy, Film Theory and Production, Microbiology, Political Science, and Art History.
Faculty
Nearly all BECNO faculty hold the highest degree in their field, have made significant contributions to published scholarship, and have earned recognition for excellent teaching. All BECNO faculty have undergone a selective review process and have had their courses approved by the Academic Dean of Bard College. BECNO faculty approach teaching and scholarship with passion and dedication.
Student Support
BECNO students are supported outside of the classroom through the College Transfer Office and the writing center. The staff of the College Transfer Office work individually with the 11th- and 12th-grade students throughout the year to develop college-going plans, broaden the prospects in consideration, and strengthen applications. Students enrolled in the First Year Seminar visit the writing center once a week to get help with developing essays, revising course work, and refining the mechanics and substance of their writing.
