La Voz Bilingual Media Fellowship

La Voz, an award-winning Spanish-Language magazine for the Mid-Hudson Valley and Catskill region is seeking a recent college graduate for its first annual La Voz Bilingual Media Fellowship.  This is a one-year position, thanks to a grant from the Novo Foundation

La Voz was launched as a student-led project at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. What began in 2004 with 500 black and white printed copies each quarter has grown rapidly into an award-winning publication with a monthly circulation of 6,000 full-color copies distributed to 500 locations throughout five counties in the Mid-Hudson Valley. La Voz acts as a critical source of information for the 140,000 Latinos living in the Mid-Hudson Valley, empowering its Spanish speaking readers through actionable information, by providing a cost-free Spanish-Language resource on immigration law, available health services, legal rights and resources, and much more. Information about La Voz can be found at: http://lavoz.bard.edu/.

The Fellow will also serve as the liaison for selected community events, and gain valuable professional experience through a firsthand look into the full scope of the creation and publication of the region’s only nonprofit Spanish-language print magazine for the Latino population of Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia, Sullivan and Orange counties. For these reasons, responsibilities of the La Voz bilingual media fellow include, but are not limited to planning for and writing articles for La Voz, growing our social media presence, organizing and tabling at local community events, coordinating the distribution channels of the magazines, and compiling resources.

The Bilingual Media Fellow will help build capacity and support organizational sustainability by enhancing marketing, social media, and the quality of writing. The first La Voz Bilingual (Spanish/English) media fellow will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic recent college graduate, with a talent and passion for superior reporting and writing, and a dedicated focus on Latino and immigrant issues in our region.
