Al-Quds Bard, Palestine

Part-time opening for Undergraduate Core Division Faculty

Now in its ninth year of operation, Al-Quds Bard College for Arts and Sciences (AQB) is an innovative program introducing a liberal arts undergraduate education to the West Bank, with an enrollment of 300 students in 2016-2017. AQB is a rigorous program, culminating in a two-semester independent senior project, which is generally a demanding research paper of 45 pages or more. Graduates of AQB receive dual degrees: a BA from Al-Quds University and from Bard College (New York).

AQB has part-time openings beginning in the spring 2018 semester, renewable contingent upon successful review and funding, to teach in First Year and Second Year Seminar courses in the Core Division (click here for course descriptions). We seek faculty whose teaching methods are student-centered, involving students in active discussion and group tasks to develop their reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills in English. The chosen candidate must be prepared to teach students close reading, analytical, and writing skills and the ability to talk intelligently about texts. S/he must also be willing to be engaged in curriculum design as well as collaboration with other faculty members in the Core curriculum. Applicants must also be willing to invest time in teaching, grading drafts of papers, and meeting privately with students in office hours to advise their progress. A master’s degree is required and teaching experience is an asset, preferably in a university or ESL environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • MA or PhD
  • College-level teaching experience (ESL training preferred but not mandatory)
  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the College to provide student-centered teaching, foster critical thinking, and incorporate writing into every class
  • Fluent written and spoken English (native preferred)

To apply, submit a CV; a cover letter that addresses your interest and background as it relates to this position; evidence of teaching effectiveness, such as student evaluations and syllabi; and three letters of reference through Interfolio.com at:  http://apply.interfolio.com/38791

Applications will be reviewed starting October 2017. Salary is commensurate with experience.
