Faculty – Mathematics

Bard Early College at Houde Academy, Shenzhen invites applications for a full-time faculty position in mathematics, beginning August 25, 2018. The field of specialization is open, but especially desirable are candidates able to teach statistics, economics, computer science or physics in addition to pure and applied mathematics courses at the intermediate and even advanced college level.

Bard Early Colleges enable students to complete fully accredited university courses while they are still in high school, with the university courses counting towards their local high school diploma as well as towards an authentic transcript from Bard College in Annandale, New York. As the first Bard Early College campus established outside the United States, Bard Early College at Houde Academy is located in Shenzhen, China. Among the fastest growing cities in the world, Shenzhen is at the forefront of China’s swiftly-changing economic and social scene, where direct investment in technology and light manufacturing has fostered a thriving new global middle class. In recent years, Shenzhen has shifted its investment strategies, taking new interest in arts and cultural development, sustainable and green living, and makers spaces and information technology.

Candidates with MA, PhD, or ABD in mathematics welcome to apply, as are candidates from related fields including mathematics education, applied mathematics, statistics and mathematical physics. High school teaching experience is also a plus.  The successful applicant for this position must be committed to teaching classes at both the high school and college levels. In addition, candidates will be expected to participate fully in the life of the school, including student advising, club advising, and committee service.  College teaching experience required; high school teaching experience and/or experience working with youth desirable.  Bard Early College and Houde Academy are committed to building a diverse faculty and staff.
