Part-time, Adjunct faculty - LiteratureBard High School Early College - Queens, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for a part-time, adjunct faculty position in the Literature Department beginning fall 2018. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a high school diploma. Queens is a particularly diverse borough with families hailing from around the world, and BHSEC Queens is a particularly diverse school within the borough. While the vast majority of our students have English as their first language, more than 20 different languages are listed as the home languages for the parents of our students.
The BHSEC Queens Literature Department seeks an adjunct instructor for a one-year leave replacement for the 2018-2019 academic year. The successful applicant will teach two sections of 10th grade World Literature with a potential for a third course in creative writing. Candidates should have a PhD in Literature (broadly construed as English, Comparative Literature, or other national literature) or an MFA in Creative Writing. ABD applicants will also be considered. The department seeks a skilled educator interested in engaging and challenging early college students.
