Faculty - Spanish Leave Replacement

Bard High School Early College - Queens, a partnership of Bard College and the New York City Department of Education, invites applications for one full-time maternity leave replacement, faculty position to teach Spanish language, literature, and culture courses for part of the 2018-2019 academic year, from from October 2018 to February 2019. BHSEC, a national model in the field of public school reform, enables talented and highly motivated students to move in four years from the ninth grade through the first two years of college, earning an associate of arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College as well as a New York State Regents diploma.  The academic program emphasizes small class size and a commitment to teaching a diverse student body in a liberal arts environment.

The foreign language program at BHSEC Queens employs the immersion method in all its courses and stresses the study of the cultural contexts in which languages are created and spoken.  Students attain intermediate level proficiency in three years of required language coursework and frequently continue on with more advanced classes.  The successful applicant will teach four courses, including two language classes in our high school program and two language or literature courses in our college program to a diverse student body. Experience in working with younger students and demonstrated commitment to scholarship are desirable.  Native fluency or its equivalent is required.

To apply, submit a letter of interest, curriculum vitae, and contact information for three references via interfolio.com at:  http://apply.interfolio.com/50620.  In addition, please include a brief classroom story, drawn from your experience as teacher of a student with a different background than your own and interpret it for us (c. 200 words).  Application materials should be addressed to: Professor Graciela Baez, World Language Department, Bard High School Early College Queens.

Review of applications begins immediately and will proceed until the position is filled.

Bard High School Early College is an equal opportunity employer, and we welcome applications from those who contribute to our diversity. Women and members of underrepresented groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
