Director of Institutional Research - BHSEC Schools
Bard College is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Institutional Research for the Bard High School Early College schools. Based in New York City, the Director of Institutional Research reports to the Dean of Education Initiatives at Bard College and works closely with the leadership and faculty of the BHSEC schools in New York City and Newark, New Jersey. This will be an exciting opportunity to build on an established research base and to help grow the Bard High School Early Colleges strategically and as a national model for early colleges.
The Director of Institutional Research is responsible for collecting data & developing reports responsive to the needs of the schools and our funders. Working with each BHSEC school to ensure all student data required for all Department of Education partners, Bard College, grantors & funders is maintained, current & accessible for all necessary reports, the Director of Institutional Research will maintain an inventory of current & historic student & institutional data & manage its dissemination as appropriate. The Director of Institutional Research will work with Bard College researchers and others in developing mechanisms to track the education and career progress of BHSEC graduates and prepare timely reports & respond to external surveys from government agencies and associations; generate descriptive statistics and prepare charts, tables and reports for use in reports and proposals and oral presentations; and maintain and further develop the school’s database of student information.
Working with the academic leadership and faculty at each BHSEC to determine and assess best practices and student learning outcomes, the Director will identify sustainable best practices that can be replicated nationally to help secondary school students succeed in rigorous academic programs, regardless of their middle school preparation. The Director will assist in the planning and organization of a national conference focused on early colleges and what works to increase the percentages of low-income and first-generation college students who successfully pursue postsecondary education opportunities.
The successful candidate will be a skilled academic researcher with a strong understanding of statistics, predictive modeling, data analysis and informational technology. The Director will be expected to refine and further develop a set of strategic and comprehensive institutional research resources that provides decision makers the information they need; provide enhanced support for outcomes assessment; and become a vital and integral player in planning and decision-making and in helping the BHSEC schools realize their aspirations as model early colleges.
As this will be a one person office, the Director will need to be a hands-on researcher and programmer as well as skilled advisor. The Director will also have experience with statistical software applications (SPSS); familiarity with the Oracle Banner software or the NYC DOE systems (i.e., ARIS, HSST, ATS) or Newark student information system (PowerSchool) a plus.
Candidates will require at least four years experience in education research, data management, qualitative and quantitative research design and analysis and information systems management. Master’s degree in a quantitative discipline and experience with predictive modeling and other statistical analysis required; Ph.D preferred.
