Research Scholar, Gender Equality and the Economy

The Levy Economics Institute of Bard College invites applications for a Research Scholar in the Gender Equality and the Economy (GEE) program. The program’s goal is to engage in analytical and empirical work that improves our understanding of the persistence and reconstitution of economic inequalities, especially in their gendered forms. Of equal importance, our research is focused on arriving at policy recommendations that are transformative, from a social and an economic point of view; namely, interventions with the potential to redress the underlying reasons that trap women and men, albeit in different ways, in inequitable positions, in both developing and developed countries.

The position requires collaboration with a team of GEE researchers and research associates in two flagship research areas: (1) contributing to the further development of the Levy Institute Measure of Time and Income Poverty and applying this measure to new countries, and (2) tracing through Social Accounting Matrix analysis and microsimulation the macro-micro impacts of employment guarantee programs on investing in health and education in a variety of national contexts. Expertise and research interest in one or more of the following areas is considered an asset: labor markets, public finance, social security, and social protection systems.
