Harlem Children's Zone Promise Academy

Site Instructor

The Bard Early College at the Harlem Children’s Zone Promise Academy is an exciting new partnership that brings a liberal arts college education to traditionally underrepresented students.  Ultimately, the Bard Early College partnership will offer students in the HCZ Promise Academy schools the opportunity to take a tuition-free Bard College course of study and earn transferable college credits.  This program is in its first year of operation and is currently in the process of expanding to additional schools within the Promise Academy network of charter schools.  We are looking to hire a full-time Site Instructor to lead core classes within our rapidly expanding program and possibly to help develop and teach college courses offered through the Bard Early College.

Responsibilities include:

·         Teaching the 9th and 10th grade pre-college classes to prepare the students to take college courses as juniors and seniors

·         Leading academic support sessions during the school day for students who are enrolled in the program

·         Collaborating with the Academic Director in program and curricular development

·         Working with students, families and school staff to promote academic success within the program

Beginning in the fall of 2014, the site instructor will likely teach college courses within his or her specialty for HCZ Promise Academy students.

Qualifications

The Site Instructor will have teaching experience at both the college and high school levels.  A successful candidate will hold, at a minimum, a Master’s Degree in the field of his/her teaching expertise, though a terminal degree, awarded or in process, is preferred.  The Site Instructor will have the ability to tailor his or her teaching style and methods to work well with diverse groups of students.  The successful candidate will have a strong background in the liberal arts and sciences and will have a demonstrated commitment to scholarship and to teaching adolescents.
