Bard College is seeking a Dean of Students for the new Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Cleveland in Cleveland, Ohio. The Bard High School Early College (BHSEC) Cleveland, an innovative public high school offering a college course of study in the liberal arts, is opening in Cleveland in the fall of 2014.
Reporting to the Principal of BHSEC Cleveland, the Dean of Students will be responsible for coordinating the school’s admissions program; implementing and monitoring the school’s attendance procedures; overseeing and coordinating the work of the guidance department, College Transfer Office, and other student support services. In addition, the Dean of Students is expected to meet regularly with the other school administrators, and to teach one class each semester.
Candidates’ professional and academic experience should span both secondary and postsecondary teaching and administration, and, where relevant, scholarship. The successful candidate for the position will ideally possess a doctorate in a liberal arts and sciences discipline (corresponding to the fields available for study within the Bard curriculum); scholarship and engagement in field of study since attainment of terminal degree; at least three years’ teaching experience, preferably with both college and high school students; prior administrative experience in an educational and/or non-profit setting, preferably in a leadership role; strong interpersonal and organizational skills and strong written and oral communication skills.
