Simon’s Rock is the only four-year liberal arts college specifically designed to provide bright, highly motivated students with the opportunity to begin college in a residential environment after the tenth or eleventh grade. Students who successfully complete the requirements receive the Associate of Arts (A.A.) degree after two years and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree after four.



Reporting to the Director of Development, the Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of donors through all phases of the fundraising cycle including qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding; work closely with high capacity parents, alumni, and friends of the college to secure gifts of $25,000 and above; collaborate with annual fund officers to develop and execute strategies to secure lead annual fund gifts; integrate volunteers into cultivating and soliciting major donors as appropriate; and represent the College in an accurate and compelling manner.



Minimum qualifications include a bachelor’s degree, three years of experience in major gift fundraising, experience developing and managing long-term relationships, a strong track record of soliciting and closing gifts of $25,000 and more, excellent written and oral communication skills, willingness to travel at least one week a month, and at times, work outside of normal business hours, including weekends.


An advanced degree and experience in a higher education or similarly complex setting is a plus.


The successful candidate will have a passion for major gifts work; thrive as a member of a talented, cohesive and collaborative team; possess the flexibility to wear more than one hat while still hitting targets, the skills to shape and be shaped by an evolving program, and the ability to keep the big picture sharply in focus while attending to small details; experience using data to evaluate and plan; work effectively both independently and as part of a team; be an excellent critical thinker with strong interpersonal and communication skills; possess a high degree of initiative, flexibility; creativity; and a sense of humor.  Walking on water is a distinct plus.
