Tanya Marcuse

Primary Academic Program: Photography


A.A., Bard College at Simon’s Rock; B.A., Oberlin College; M.F.A., photography, Yale University School of Art. Marcuse is represented by Julie Saul Gallery in New York City, and her work is in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, George Eastman House, and Yale University Art Gallery, among other institutions. She has published several books of photographs, including Wax Bodies, Fruitless, and Undergarments and Armor. Marcuse's work has been exhibited at the Julie Saul Gallery; Davison Arts Center, Wesleyan University; Hemphill Gallery; Belfast Exposed Photography, Northern Ireland, George Eastman House; Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Madrid; and the International Center for Photography. Honors and awards include a Guggenheim Fellowship; fellowships from the Center for Photography at Woodstock and Dutchess County Arts Council; and a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, which she used to live in the South American rain forest and photograph the Bari Indians. At Bard since 2012.
