Matthew Gantt

Primary Academic Program: Music


BA, MM, Brooklyn College. Matthew Gantt is a New York City–based composer whose work focuses primarily on the creative use of live electronics, issues of embodiment and environment in digital performance, and the use of open form scores and systems. He has performed or presented work at venues including New York’s Roulette, ISSUE Project Room, Irondale Center, Silent Barn, the New Museum, and the Stone, as well as internationally at the IRCAM Academy (Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) in Paris. At CUNY Brooklyn, he studied composition under the direction of Morton Subotnick, and was awarded the John Cage Award for experimental composition. Awards and residencies also include Signal Culture artist in residence and Tow International Research Grant. He previously taught at the Brooklyn College Center for Computer Music. At Bard: Fall 2018.
