Biography:

BA, Stanford University; MPhil, PhD, University of Cambridge. Cassandra Sweet comes to Bard from the Institute of Political Science at Pontificia Universidad Católica (PUC) in Santiago, Chile, where she taught political economy of development, international relations, and Latin American politics at the PhD, MA, and undergraduate levels, and was awarded the university’s top teaching prize. She is a member of the Board of Directors for Espacio Público, an innovative think tank looking at policy solutions for Chile and Latin America. She has also served on the boards of the Chilean Society for Public Policy and the College of Arts and Sciences PUC. Recent publications include a chapter in Global Powers (Oxford University Press, forthcoming); and articles and reviews in, among others, Journal of Health Politics, Policy and Law (2017), Globalization and Health (2017), World Development (2015), and World Medical & Health Policy (2015). Media appearances include more than 75 columns and radio and television interviews for outlets such as CNN Chile, TVN, BBC, Radio Agricultura, and Canal 24 Horas. From 2014 to 2018, she was lead researcher on the project “The Political Economy of Innovation, Intellectual Property, and Human Development in Latin America,” funded by the Chilean equivalent of the National Science Foundation.
