Erica Lindsay

Musician and composer Erica Lindsay is an artist in residence at Bard College. She received her B.A. from New York University and has been on the faculty since 2001. Lindsay plays the tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, and flute.

She has played at prominent jazz festivals in Europe, Asia, and the United States, and in major venues including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fisher Hall, Sweet Basil’s, The Bottom Line, Merkin Hall, and the Knitting Factory. Lindsay has composed and arranged for Hamburg Radio Big Band, Unique Munich Saxophone Choir, and Melba Liston & Co. She has performed and recorded with McCoy Tyner, Reggie Workman, Art Blakey, Oliver Lake, Ted Curson, Howard Johnson, and Clifford Jordan, among others. Lindsay has been active composing for theater, television, and dance, as well as performing with poets and performance artists Carl Hancock-Rux, Janice King, Janine Vega, Mikhail Horowitz, and Nancy Ostrovsky. She is featured in Burrill Crohn’s film documentary, Women in Jazz, and in Sally Placksin’s book American Women in Jazz. Her quintet can be heard on the Candid Records release Erica Lindsay—Dreamer, which the Penguin Book of Jazz Recordings has called “tremendously impressive” and “a record that shouldn’t be missed.” Lindsay's other albums include Yes/Live at the Rosendale Café; a duo collaboration with Ricky Carter titled Soul Catcher; a Trace Elements CD titled Live at Bruno’s; The Flame; and the first CD from the Erica Lindsay/Sumi Tonooka Quartet, titled Initiation.
