Conversation with Maria Lind

Maria Lind, Curator and Critic from Stockholm has been director of the Munich Kunstverein since January 2002. She was the commissioner for Sweden’s participation at the São Paolo Bienal in 2002 (Annika Eriksson) and 1998 (Ann-Sofí Sidén). She was one of three curators for Manifesta 2, Luxembourg (1998), and as a curator at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm (1997-2001), she worked particularly with emerging artists on site-specific installations (Tobias Rehberger, Douglas Gordon et al).

Since 1998, she has curated several touring exhibitions and screenings with contemporary film and video, specifically with artists from Nordic countries. In 2000 she curated What if: Art on the verge of architecture and design, 2000, and in 1997 she curated Letter & Event, a group show at Apex Art, NY, including Rirkrit Tiravanija, Carsten Höller and Christine Borland. Together with Hans-Ulrich Obrist, she founded the independent art platform, Salon 3, in London (1998-2000).

Maria Lind has been published in Frieze, Art Monthly, Parkett and Flash Art, and contributed to Fresh Cream (Phaidon, 2000).

This “Conversation” is free and open to the public.

The “Conversations” series, sponsored by the Center for Curatorial Studies, includes lectures and more informal
discussions by visiting artists, curators, critics, and scholars who are invited to speak about recent work, current exhibitions, and important issues in the contemporary visual arts.
