On an annual basis, two graduates of our first-round workshops receive $1,000 scholarships to attend follow-on, multi-day leadership trainings. The first, through StartingBloc, is focused on social entrepreneurship. The second, through Wellstone Action, walks you through how to run your own political campaign, support a campaign, or pursue other grassroots organizing. The next application period will open in the spring of 2014 – check back then for more information.
Scholarships in Action
In 2013, Chris Busker (C2C Fellow Ann Arbor, 2013) attended the StartingBloc Institute for Social Innovation in New York City. Chris’s free-styling video application (link) caught our attention – as did his plans to use StartingBloc to work on launching his non-profit, 4Peace. Chris wrote about StartingBloc's impact in "If Your Dreams Do Not Scare You".
Nathan Shuler (C2C Fellow Chattanooga 2012) attended Wellstone Action’s Camp Wellstone in Chicago in August, following the "Being a Candidate" track. His personal story moved and inspired us, and led to C2C to invest in his future.
In addition to second-round leadership training, C2C Fellows are also eligible to apply to become C2C Scholars—funded graduate school students in CEP’s Masters of Science degrees in Climate Science and Policy, Environmental Policy or in Bard’s MBA in Sustainability. In their first year at Bard, C2C Scholars in the MS programs are tasked with managing and developing the C2C Fellows network and workshops, getting hands-on leadership experience. In their second year, they participate in six-month, high-level policy internships in the climate and clean energy field, before returning to CEP to complete their Masters theses.
