Senior Manager of Research and Analysis, California Center for Sustainable Energy
"As the senior manager of research and analysis at the California Center for Sustainable Energy (CCSE), I oversee research designed to support effective renewable energy, electric vehicle, and energy efficiency policies and programs. The multidisciplinary, thematic curriculum offered at Bard CEP was invaluable in preparing me for this work. It provided me with the tools necessary to both understand and explain the technical and policy issues driving sustainable energy markets in California."
2013-14 Program Overview
The new Bard CEP program overview highlights the skills students gain through Bard's curriculum including the extended internship. Bard CEP alumni/ae are featured and recent placements listed.
The Bard CEP programs of study are specifically designed to offer academic rigor and excellence in addition to professional development and advancement. Bard CEP is committed to providing career support through online resources, a job/internship board, a career newsletter, and workshops that hone students' professional and networking skills.
During the first year, students are taught how to think in an interdisciplinary way, focussing on systems and analysis as well as the real world issues we face. They are trained in in statistics, GIS and research methods, all of which are vital to high-level policy positions in the environmental field. The second year internship provides direct entry into their chosen career path, allowing for both project and issue expertise, as well as networking and other professional opportunities. The final requirement for the degree, the Master's Project, enables students to hone their writing, research, and communication skills, while become a mini-expert on their chosen topic. These curricular designs are deliberate, and allow for both academic and professional growth.
Bard CEP prepares its graduate students to enter the job market. The services are tailored to individual career preferences and plans, and also include networking and interview preparation. An online job board facilities searches, and career-specific skill sessions are held throughout the year. Bard CEP faculty members work with students to identify professional opportunities and make contacts with potential employers. Graduate students make use of the online resources found at www.bard.edu/cdo and www.bard.edu/cep/portal.
