James Rouvelle
Music/Sound. Musician and interdisciplinary artist. B.A., Skidmore College; M.F.A., Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts, Bard College. Postgraduate study at the Juilliard and Aspen music schools in composition; private study with Charles Jones. Cofounder, the Present Eye chamber ensemble, New York (1994 98). Has conceived, built, programmed, and shown robotic/networked/interactive sound and installation works; recent activities involve large-scale micro-radio projects such as URBANtells, San Jose, California (2006; ISEA commission); the street stripped bare, by her ears, everywhere, Art_Interactive, Cambridge, Massachusetts (2006); and traces, Baltimore (2007); current experiments in the application of technology to enhance social relationships (collaborative, synchronous oscillation, Fringexhibitions, Los Angeles, July 2007), and the creation of simultaneous online and offline events (community performance ensemble Fluid Movement [Baltimore], and SecondLife, ongoing). Professor of interactive media, Maryland Institute.
