About the Program

The Bard English Summer Language Intensive (BESLI) is a four-week intensive course for students from Smolny College in St. Petersburg, Russia, in which participants study academic English that stresses reading and writing. The goal of the program is to prepare Smolny students for English language courses at Smolny or at Bard College during the academic semester. Some students take a specialized English language course and some are integrated into the Language and Thinking program with incoming Bard students. While on campus, BESLI students interact with Bard students academically and socially in order to be immersed in the English language. The BESLI program also includes cultural excursions in the region.
