Conferences

The international conference Accounting for Atrocities: Prosecuting War Crimes 50 Years After Nuremberg was organized by Peter Maguire and was held at Bard College on October 5-6, 1998.

Sponsored by Bard College, the Bard Center and the Institute for International Liberal Education, the conference brought together leaders from the fields of history, human rights, international law, and the law of war as well as leaders of international humanitarian organizations. They addressed the persistent occurrence of genocide and the means and limitations to control it.

The conference program is outlined on this website, together with the opening address of the conference made by Peter Maguire, the author of Law and War: An American Story and Facing Death (both forthcoming from Columbia University Press) and the project historian for the Photo Archive Group in Cambodia from 1994 - 1997.

The conference speakers included:

The conference was held at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
