A Race to Make History

The quest for dark matter is one of particle physics most active research areas today. Despite the overwhelming amount of evidence that it exists and makes up to 25% of the universe, a dark matter particle has yet to be detected. While over the years, many different experiments using many different technologies have emerged, liquid xenon detectors have now proven their superiority in leading the field of direct dark matter detection. However, as they need to become bigger and bigger to be more and more sensitive, the current detectors are reaching the limit of irreducible backgrounds, and thus are reaching the end of their detection ability. Therefore new, improved detectors must be invented which will not only address the background issues that current detectors face but also probe new, until now inaccessible, search areas, thus opening a new era for DM detection.For more information, call 845-758-7584, or e-mail [email protected].
