Kaythee Hlaing
Kaythee Hlaing, a native of Rangoon, Burma [Myanmar], is a Trustee Leader Scholar. The TLS program helps Bard students develop leadership skills through designing and implementing service projects on campus and elsewhere.

As a residential college of 1,500 students, Bard’s Annandale campus provides an exquisite setting in which students pursue their academic interests and craft a rich social life. The fusion of two historic estates, the park-like campus covers about 250 hectares of fields and forested land bordering the Hudson River. Just 140 kilometers (90 miles) north of New York City Bardians have easy access to one of the worlds great cities by car or train, yet have the advantage of a secure and relaxing campus where they can concentrate on their studies and develop interpersonal and civic skills in a close knit community. The temperate climate in the Hudson River Valley offers the joy of all four seasons with temperatures ranging from zero in the winter months to 20 C in August (when new students arrive.) In the spring and fall the temperature ranges between 10C and 15C.

ISO
Students at Bard enjoy a wide variety of activities and events throughout the year. As a student you are encouraged to not only get involved but also to create your own activities. Many international students become active in the International Student Organization (ISO), which plays a large role in the social life of Bard and is made up of students from all corners of the globe. Be sure to check out the ISO section of this web site for more information.

Clubs
In addition to the ISO, there are nearly 60 student-run clubs that you can get involved with. Each semester the Student Government allocates money to student organizations to support everything from the film screenings and concerts to various lectures, parties, dinners and cultural events. In addition, student funding helps support our two college newspapers, the Bard Observer and the Bard Free Press as well as our radio station, WXBC. To see a complete list of current student clubs click here.

Campus Events
In addition to student initiated events, the College organizes a wide variety of social and academic events throughout the year, nearly all of which are free to our students. The Office of Student Activities organizes substance-free events each week for the Bard community. Athletics
For those who are looking to get involved in Athletics at Bard, there are numerous options available from intramural and club sports, to varsity team sports. Click here to find out more about Athletics at Bard.

Personal Expenses and Living Costs
While this may vary greatly for each student, you can expect to spend at least 40 dollars a week on miscellaneous expenses such as laundry, eating out, movies, travel, etc. This also covers some of the basic monthly necessities such as soap, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. Getting a job on campus usually provides some funds to cover these basic expenses. Nearly all of the activities, lectures, and concerts that take place on campus are free to students. Those events that do charge always offer student discounts.

Banking
There are several banks located close to campus. During the L&T orientation there are shuttles that will take students to the local banks to set up accounts. Typically, international students arrive with some American currency in hand and then set up an account after they arrive. Having a credit card is helpful for those first few trips to the mall and bookstore.

Food Services and Meal Plans
All first year students are required to be on a meal plan, which provides 19 meals per week at the Kline Dining Commons. The dining service offers a standard menu and vegetarian, vegan, and kosher-style options. The meal plan provides a wide variety of choices for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Your residence hall will also have a kitchen where you can cook your own food as well. Aside from the eating cafeteria, you will also be given 150 dollars credit (as a part of your meal plan) to eat at either of the two additional cafes on campus.

Telephone Services
More information available at the Telephone Services website.
