December Weekend Workshops

The December weekend consists of two-day writing and thinking workshops for teachers of all subjects. Writing and Thinking and Writing to Learn are the core Institute workshops and the best introduction to IWT writing practices.

GRADUATE CREDIT: Through Bard's Master of Arts in Teaching Program, workshop participants may earn one graduate credit for each weekend workshop; participants must, in addition to completing the workshop, write and submit a detailed report and a lesson plan on using writing in the classroom. December 7-9, 2012

The December weekend presents two days of concurrent workshops that provide a place for intellectual engagement where teachers of all subjects can write, read, and learn through collaboration and where teachers learn how to sequence writing practices that help students develop as readers and writers. Schools are encouraged to send interdisciplinary teams of teachers who can begin discussion of how best to transfer these writing skills from one subject to another. To support teacher collaboration across the disciplines on revising the writing curriculum, a ten percent discount is offered to teams of three or more teachers from the same school.
