4+1 Program

By selecting a 4+1 pathway, Bard economics graduates have the opportunity to continue their education with a distinctive Master of Arts in Economic Theory and Policy offered by Bard's internationally renowned Levy Economics Institute.

Who Should Apply?

Bard graduates from other disciplines —such as Mathematics, Computer Science, Anthropology, Historical Studies, Philosophy, Political Studies, Sociology, American Studies, Asian Studies, Classical Studies, Environmental and Urban Studies, French Studies, German Studies, Global and International Studies, Human Rights, Italian Studies, Russian and Eurasian Studies, and Spanish Studies— are welcome to apply.

Application Requirements

Prospective applicants in these fields are encouraged to prepare for the M.A. by taking Economics or Statistics courses before the start of the  program, or to demonstrate the required level of knowledge through other means, such as research or work experience. The M.A. provides preparation for students intending to pursue a doctoral program in economics.
