Bard students, Faculty, and Staff must have a valid ID card with a bar code for the current semester in order to check out library materials or borrow reserve readings, and media for in-library use. Faculty and staff must present their IDs at Stevenson 102 or the Information Desk on Monday through Thursday from 9am -9pm, Friday 9am - 5pm, and Saturday 10am - 5pm to have their bar codes entered into our circulation system. Non-matriculated Continuing Studies Program students are entitled to a fee-free library card for the semesters in which they are enrolled only. These cards are retained by the library and filed at the Main Desk. Community Memberships are available for $25.00 per year. Please see the librarian at the Information Desk during business hours to establish an account.
Loan Periods
Loan periods vary, according both to the borrower and the material. The following is a list of patron types and their corresponding loan periods.
Undergraduate Students - 28 days
Seniors - full semester
Faculty - full semester
Graduate students - full semester
Staff - 28 days
Community members - 28 days
Alumni/CSP - 28 days
The loan period for browsing books is 28 days and applies to all borrowers. Loan periods for the January Intersession and Summer Vacation will be announced at those times.
Books can be renewed one time only. Renewals may be made online or in person, with the materials in hand, at the Circulation Desk in Stevenson Library. A book cannot be renewed if it is needed for course reserves or if another borrower has placed a hold on it.
For further information about library cards, loan periods, and fines, contact Eileen Ryckman, Stevenson 102 (ext. 7359).
Course Reserve Loan Periods
Course reserve materials are typically checked out for three hours at a time. They may be renewed provided no other student is waiting to use them. Because of the great demand for these materials and because success in a course often depends upon timely access to them, use is restricted to one item at a time. Fines for overdue reserve items reflect this high demand: $1 per item per hour overdue.
If a reserve item has been designated by a faculty member as "overnight reserve," it can be checked out from 10:00pm until 10:00am the next morning. Fines on overnight reserves are based on the due time of 10:00 a.m.
For further information on course reserves contact Elizabeth Bryant, Stevenson 304 (ext 7312; bryant@bard.edu).
