Borrow/Renew Books

This page provides information on renewing and borrowing materials from the Stevenson Library. You can check on your library account to renew and see what fines you have at any time.

Renewing Books

How to Renew Books:

  1. Click on the link "Currently Checked Out Items" to review the items you have checked out. Your ConnectNY books will be listed at the bottom.
  2. Choose the book(s) you wish to renew by clicking on the box(es) to the left of the title(s). When renewing ConnectNY books, renew each book separately.
  3. Click on the "Renew Selected Items" button.

Borrowing Books

Undergraduates

  • Can check out a maximum of 100 books for 6 weeks each
  • Each book is allowed one renewal
  • Connect NY, Reserves, ILL and other collections have different loan rules
  • Fines accrue at a rate of $0.25 per day
  • Fines of greater than $50 will render account inactive until the fine is paid
  • Lost books will be billed at $80 for replacement plus $10 for processing and $10 for binding as needed

Seniors

  • Can check out a maximum of 100 books for a full academic year
  • No renewals are needed
  • Connect NY, Reserves, ILL and other collections have different loan rules
  • Fines accrue at a rate of $0.25
  • Fines of greater than $50 will render account inactive until the fine is paid
  • Lost books will be billed at $80 for replacement plus $10 for processing and $10 for binding as needed

Faculty

  • Can check out a maximum of 100 books for one semester
  • Books will be renewed as needed
  • Connect NY, Reserves, ILL and other collections have different loan rules
  • Lost books must be replaced – please contact Alexa Murphy (amurphy@bard.edu) to resolve these issues

Bard Staff

  • Can check out a maximum of 100 books for 4 weeks each
  • Each book is allowed one renewal
  • Connect NY, Reserves, ILL and other collections have different loan rules
  • Fines accrue at a rate of $0.25 per day
  • Fines of greater than $100 will render account inactive until the fine is paid
  • Lost books will be billed at $80 for replacement plus $10 for processing and $10 for binding as needed

Graduate students (including Vocal Arts)

  • Can check out a maximum of 100 books for one semester
  • Each book is allowed one renewal
  • Connect NY, Reserves, ILL and other collections have different loan rules
  • Fines accrue at a rate of $0.25
  • Fines of greater than $50 will render account inactive until the fine is paid
  • Lost books will be billed at $80 for replacement plus $10 for processing and $10 for binding as needed

Seasonal Faculty & MFA Faculty (Summer and Winter Intersessions)

  • Can check out a maximum of 100 books for one Intersession
  • Books will be due on the last day of the Intersession
  • Connect NY, Reserves, ILL and other collections have different loan rules
  • Fines are assessed at $0.25 per day
  • Lost books will be billed at $80 for replacement plus $10 for processing and $10 for binding as needed.

Alumni\Community Memberships

  • Cost $40 per year (Alumni will be given free Community Memberships)
  • Must be able to prove that you live within 50 miles of the main campus
  • Allow you to check out a maximum of 15 books for 4 weeks each
  • Books needed by faculty or students for research are subject to recall
  • Computers and library IT equipment not available for CM use except to check library catalog
  • Fines accrue at a rate of $0.25 per day for the first 14 days and increase to $1 per day thereafter
  • Fines of greater than $20 will render account inactive until the fine is paid
  • Lost books will be billed at $80 for replacement plus $10 for processing and $10 for binding as needed
  • Bard students and faculty have priority for library resources
  • Databases and Inter-Library Loan are not available to Community Members
  • Copying is available on a very limited basis at a cost of $0.20 per copy
