Bard, A Place to Think - Master of Arts in Teaching

Financial Aid

The MAT Program is committed to assisting qualified students whose personal financial resources are insufficient to meet the expenses of graduate study. A limited number of fellowships are available. Financial aid is awarded on the basis of achievement and promise as well as financial need, according to criteria determined annually by the Office of Financial Aid of Bard College. Awards are made without regard to sex, sexual orientation, race, color, age, marital status, religion, ethnic or national origin, or handicapping conditions.

Financial Aid Resources

For information on financial aid, including necessary forms, resources, and information for international students, go to Bard College's Financial Aid website at www.bard.edu/financialaid/ or call the Office of Financial Aid, 845-758-7526.

Application Procedure

All students applying for financial aid should complete the Financial Aid Application, available at the back of this catalogue, and the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form, available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The priority deadline for receipt of financial aid applications is February 2, 2009. Those applying before the deadline receive first consideration. Applications received after the final deadline of March 31, 2009, are considered in order of receipt until all scholarship assistance funds are committed.

Eligibility

Eligibility for aid based on financial need is determined according to a uniform method that assesses financial data submitted by the student. The student provides this data on the FAFSA. The FAFSA should be sent to the federal processor as soon as possible. Students in default of a federal student loan or owing a refund on a federal grant are not eligible for federal financial aid.

Types of Assistance

Financial assistance is available in the form of merit-based or need-based institutional fellowships and federal, state private loans for students. Grant monies are available from a number of national organizations and private corporations that sponsor education at the graduate level.
