Admission
Applying
Applications for admission are accepted once per year. Applications are reviewed and evaluated by a committee of faculty within the applicant's field. Admissions decisions are made by the end of April; admitted students must submit a $500 enrollment deposit in order to secure their position in the program.
To Apply
The application deadline for summer 2008 has passed. Applications will be accepted starting in July for summer 2009. The priority admission deadline to apply for summer 2009 is January 31, 2009. The deadline for all applications is March 21, 2009.
For 2009, in addition to our paper application, we are offering an online application format. This site will be updated with the new requirements and information once it is available, and no later than September 1, 2008.
We do not require the GRE for any discipline.
General application requirements include:
- A nonrefundable application fee of $65 in the form of a check or money order made payable to Bard College.
- A personal statement of between 500 and 600 words that explains why you have chosen to pursue a career in teaching. We would also like to hear about the academic, work, and life experiences that contributed to your decision to continue studying a particular discipline while acquiring the skills and knowledge and earning the certification required to become a secondary school teacher.
- A résumé outlining your education, current and previous employment, and teaching experience if any.
- If you plan to teach in New York City, review the Petrie and Newton Fellowship options, and submit the necessary application materials if appropriate.
The following should be sent separately:
- Official transcripts from all post secondary institutions attended. Please note: Copies are considered official only if they are sent directly to the MAT Program Admission Committee from the issuing institution. Unofficial transcript copies sent by the applicant will not be accepted.
- Three letters of recommendation from college instructors or professional colleagues. The letters should be addressed to the MAT Program Admission Committee, signed across the sealed flap of the envelope, and sent directly to the MAT Program Admission Committee by the authors. Copies sent by the applicant will not be accepted. Please use the forms provided.
Please note: An application is considered incomplete and will not be acted upon until all materials listed above have been received.
