Applying to Bard MAT

Required Materials

All applicants are required to submit the following materials:

  1. Completed online application
  2. $65 application fee (payable online by credit card or electronic debit, or by check/money order)
  3. Personal Statement (500-600 words explaining why you have chosen to study at Bard College toward a career in teaching)
  4. Resume
  5. Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate schools attended for at least one academic year, regardless of whether credits were transferred to another institution or a degree was received. Transcripts must be sent in sealed envelopes directly from the schools, and must display completion of applicable prerequisites.
  6. Three letters of recommendation. These can be submitted by the recommenders online or via the post office. If submitted via the post office, the recommender must sign across the sealed flap of the envelope. *Please note that an additional letter of recommendation is required for certain fellowships. See details under “Fellowships.”
  7. CA ONLY: Proof of California Basic Educational Skills Test (CBEST) passing score or registration for the next exam. Register at www.cbest.nesinc.com
  8. CA ONLY: Tuberculosis clearance (documentation of negative test results within the last four years)
  9. CA ONLY: Fingerprinting clearance: for directions, please go to the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) website at www.ctc.ca.gov/help/application/cert-of-clear.html
