Assistant Director
Bard College's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Program is seeking an Assistant Director. The MAT Program is committed to rigorous graduate training in mathematics, biology, history and English; early and intense involvement in the high school classroom; partnerships for educational change with participant schools; and a re-conceptualized education curriculum. The Assistant Director will work closely with the MAT Director, will assume administrative and management responsibilities for current programs, and will play a key role in advancing new initiatives. The MAT program is expanding its work in New York City, continuing to build its community of mentor teachers, developing a unique program for the education of science teachers, and establishing a model school to serve as a laboratory for learning and a site for teaching internships and professional development. These initiatives respond to the national call to increase the number of highly effective and committed teachers prepared to address the needs of underserved students in urban schools. Other current projects include: continuing development of the MAT Program and charter school in Delano, California and expansion of the MAT Program in Palestine.
Candidates must possess a PhD or EdD in an appropriate academic field, a minimum of 2-4 years of prior administrative experience and a commitment to educational leadership. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required, and college-level teaching experience and familiarity with public schools are desirable.
