Our Los Angeles Community

Residency Introduction

The Bard MAT program is located just west of Downtown between MacArthur Park and Koreatown--in one of the most densely populated areas of the United States and home to a vibrant immigrant community. Classes are held adjacent to the Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools on Wilshire Boulevard, one of the city's largest high school complexes.

Bard has collaborated with numerous partners in the community, most prominently Heart of Los Angeles (HOLA) which hosts the Youth Orchestra of Los Angeles and the Longy School of Music of Bard College. Bard MAT students have long served as mentors at HOLA working with first generation college students in supportive academic programming.

The Bard M.A.T. is a member of the Los Angeles Promise Zone and is involved in several initiatives supporting immigrant students, restorative practices in schools, strengthening new ethnic studies course requirements, and expanding educational opportunities for adjudicated and incarcerated youth. Bard M.A.T. graduates are widely sought by school principles and district superintendents and are employed in full-time teaching positions throughout the city.
