Bard MAT students carry out their studies on the Bard campus and engage in field experiences in nearby schools in the Hudson Valley, working with experienced teachers who are active members of the MAT educational community. Each school offers a variety of practical experiences to the MAT apprentice.

On-Campus Housing

There is limited on-campus housing available for graduate students. When applying, please email mat@bard.edu for up to date information on available housing on campus.

Off-Campus Housing

Off-campus housing is a great option for graduate students. A variety of houses and apartments at reasonable rents can be found near the Bard College campus. VIEW MORE >>

Meal Plans

There is no meal plan for graduate students. During the academic year graduate students may open a "flex account", which allows them to put cash on their Bard ID cards to be used in Kline Commons servery, Down the Road Cafe, and Manor Cafe. Students using flex accounts are given a discount on their purchases.

Bard College is in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York, on the east bank of the Hudson River, midway between New York City and Albany, and 220 miles southwest of Boston.

Driving Directions

By automobile: In New York State, take the Taconic State Parkway to the Red Hook/Route 199 exit, drive west on Route 199 through the village of Red Hook to Route 9G, turn right onto Route 9G, and drive north 1.6 miles. Or take the New York State Thruway (I-87) to Exit 19 (Kingston), take Route 209 (changes to Route 199 at the Hudson River) over the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge to Route 9G, turn left onto Route 9G and drive north 3.5 miles.

Public Transportation

All BardMAT graduate students must have access to their own vehicle during their time in the Program.

By train
: Amtrak provides service from Penn Station, New York City, and from Albany to Rhinecliff, about 9 miles south of Annandale. Taxi service is available at the station.
By air: Bard College is accessible from Kennedy and LaGuardia airports in New York City; and from the airports in Newark, New Jersey, and Albany and Newburgh, New York.
