MAT Fifth Year and Dual Degree Options
Master of Arts in Teaching Preparation Program for Bard Undergraduates
Current Bard undergraduates who wish to enter the MAT Program upon completion of the bachelor's degree through a preferred admissions process should notify their advisers as early as possible, preferably by November 1 of the sophomore year, that they plan to pursue a fifth year of study in the MAT Program. In addition to fulfilling the requirements of the Bard academic program related to the discipline they plan to teach, students are expected to complete an internship requiring teaching or tutoring in a school setting. To plan appropriate course work to prepare for the MAT Program, interested students should consult with their advisers and obtain a list of course requirements and an application for the Master of Arts in Teaching Preparation Program from the MAT Program office.
Dual Degree Program Option
In partnership with the Bard Center for Environmental Policy (BCEP), students may apply for a two-year dual degree program (master of science in environmental policy and master of arts in teaching). Applicants must apply to, and be accepted by, both the BCEP and the MAT Programs. Although applications may be made simultaneously, decisions are made independently by each graduate program. For more information about BCEP, see the program's website at www.bard.edu/cep.
