Business education in sustainability demands a strong hands-on orientation. A key component of the Bard MBA curriculum is NYCLab. During the first year of study, working in small teams, students engage in consultancies for NYC-area businesses, government agencies and non-profits. Each team is closely mentored by a faculty member. During the residencies in NY City, students are exposed to a range of guest experts, and meet regularly with the businesses for which they are consulting.

The Bard MBA is structured around weekend intensives. There are five of these intensives each term: four in the heart of New York City, and one in the Hudson Valley, north of the city. Classes run for four days, beginning on Friday morning and ending Monday afternoon. Students and faculty are together for an engaged and intense period, sharing class time, meals, down-time, and enabling a powerful kind of education that really sticks.
