Artist in Residence in Ceramics at Cranbrook Academy of Art
This is a unique position, just as Cranbrook has occupied a unique place in American educational history. There is no prescribed curriculum here; no standard program of study. Instead, working with a small number of graduate students in an intimate studio environment, our Artists in Residence each create their own teaching program. Each Artist in Residence heads their own department, and they are its only faculty member. They choose their own students and are responsible for the success of their departments. Aside from managing their programs, our Artists in Residence have only one other major responsibility: making art. They are all active artists, and their work appears in many of the world’s foremost galleries and collections. This is a full-time appointment that commences September, 2008. Cranbrook’s salaries and benefits packages are competitive, and all Artists in Residence are provided with a professional studio as well as on-campus housing as part of their appointment.
Requirements:
Candidates for this position must be working artists with a sustained record of peer recognition; a demonstrated commitment to college-level teaching; a Masters Degree or higher; administrative experience; excellent communication skills; the ability to provide a productive and interactive learning environment; and the capacity to make a meaningful and memorable contribution to their
field and to this important and unusual school.
Please send a letter of interest/statement of philosophy, a curriculum vitae, names and contact information for 5 references, and a portfolio of professional and student work (which can include up to 20 double-sided pages).
Deadline:
Applications are due by March 1, 2008, however, the search will continue until the position is filled. Candidates are encouraged to submit their materials using a shipping service that can track their submission. Cranbrook is not
responsible for lost or damaged portfolios. Portfolios should also include a self-addressed, postage-paid envelope if return is desired. Contact:
