Student Service Projects

leaf iconMcDonogh #35

In June and July of 2006, 36 Bard students ran a summer remedial program with McDonogh #35, a badly flooded public high school in the 7th ward, to provide students in danger of failing with tutoring and to assist in stabilizing a school in danger of institutional collapse. The school, funded and supported in large part based on student performance on a standardized test, lost much of its faculty and infrastructure in the storm. Working with the school's principal and administration, Bard students contributed teaching and one-on-one tutoring; their efforts were central to the stability of the school and the services offered to its students and its community.
