Bard Urban Studies in New Orleans Program

The New Orleans Initiative offers a unique and highly-selective 8-week program in New Orleans. The program's 20 students will investigate notions of urbanism, ecology, and social policy, both in seminar style-classes and in demanding internships. Students will be expected to take two courses and intern up to 40 hours per week.

Admission

The Urban Studies program application process works on the basis of rolling admissions. Primary consideration will be given to students who apply before February 24th.

To apply online:

  • Go to: https://bard.slideroom.com/
  • Log in or create and confirm your Slideroom account.
  • Click the "Start a New Submission" button
  • In the Categories list, select "Bard Urban Studies in New Orleans"
  • Then choose the application for Bard or Non-Bard students
  • Steps 1-3. Complete all Personal and Educational form fields
  • Step 4. For Internships, review our list of opportunities on this page and indicate your choices in the available fields.

  • Step 5. You are required to request three recommendations in order to apply. One from your Academic Adviser, one from an Academic Reference, and one from a Professional Reference.You must submit their Name, Title, Email, Organization, Phone, and Relationship. Under relationship please indicate Adviser, Academic, or Professional. An email will be sent requesting that they log in and submit their recommendation to Slideroom.
  • Step 6. Please upload a PDF of your resume
  • Step 7. Pay the fee of $10 and submit your application.

Tuition: $7,056

Bard Urban Studies offers generous Urban Studies Awards, competitive awards based on merit and need, to students seeking financial aid. These awards cover a portion of the program tuition. Students must apply for an Urban Studies Award when they submit their application to the program. Undergraduate students are encouraged to check with their host college to see if the financial aid they are receiving will transfer to cover the cost of the program.
