One of the great color films, The Red Shoes is adapted from a Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and takes the Ballets Russes as a model for total commitment to art (Diaghilev’s pupil Léonide Massine helped to choreograph the central dance sequence). 35mm restored print courtesy of the UCLA Film & Television Archive.
