FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLICMutually interested in ideas of queerness and heroism, Jesse Zaritt and Jumatatu Poe are working towards the creation of a performance world that explores danger coupled with fragility, chosenness as compared to loneliness, and sincerity versus hyperbole. This peformance includes moments of full nudity.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Jumatatu Poe is a Philadelphia-based artist. He teaches at Swarthmore College, is the founder of idiosynCrazy productions, and is a 2012 Pew Fellow. His choreographic work has been supported by the Pew Center for Arts & Heritage through Dance Advance, Philadelphia Live Arts Festival, Susan Hess Modern Dance Choreographers’ Project, Community Education Center, and New York Live Arts.
Jesse Zaritt is a New York City-based artist. He has performed his solo work in Russia, Korea, Germany, New York, Japan, Mexico and Israel. His solo ‘Binding’ is the recipient of three 2010 New York Innovative Theater Awards: Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Solo Performance, and Outstanding Performance Art Production. He currently dances for Faye Driscoll and Netta Yerushalmy.
This performance occurs as part of the partnership between Bard College and New York Live Arts.
