The Visitor Talks - Dialogues : Triple Canopy (Peter J Russo) & Hyperallergic (Hrag Vartanian)
Monday, October 6, 2014
CCS Bard Seminar Room 1
Beginning in the Fall of 2014 and continuing through Spring of 2015, the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (CCS Bard) will organize The Visitor Talks – Dialogues: Similarly Different or More of the Same. Employing a series of dialogical discussion formats, each of The Visitor Talks – Dialogues… will gather together two collaborative projects, group practices, or institutional initiatives, to converse, debate and respond to each another. Each of the dialogues will articulate two distinct positions whilst reflecting upon the similarities and differences in methodological approaches to similar areas of cultural enquiry, critique and production. The Visitor Talks – Dialogues… will explore issues pertaining to co-commissioning, co-curating, co-editing, co-operation and collective ways of initiating, producing and mediating in the world. Some of the subjects tackled will be: the revisiting and rewriting of art histories as co-productive forms of curatorial practice; the limitations of art writing/ criticism and the importance of new publishing forms; and archival practices as a reimagining of specific socio-cultural historiographies. The series will explore the possibilities, limitations and contradictions of working collaboratively as well as working both within and beyond prevailing artistic canons. Taking historiography and group work as two starting points The Visitor Talks – Dialogues: Similarly Different or More of the Same will explore how different methods of group working can contribute to a rethinking of dominant historical paradigms through the reconceptualization of emergent contemporary art, writing and curatorial practice(s).For more information, call 845-758-7598, e-mail [email protected],
