Elvira Arellano
Please join us to meet Elvira Arellano, a Chicago-based immigrant rights activist from Mexico and one of the world’s leading immigrant rights activists. In 2006, Elvira took sanctuary in a church in Chicago to prevent the separation of her family. She then became the global symbol of the US immigrant rights movement and the millions of people who mobilized to protest for immigration reform that year. Elvira will speak on her own experience as an immigrant, the current immigrant rights struggle, and the humanitarian crisis involving Central American immigrants and unaccompanied immigrant children. Please welcome Elvira as she shares her perspective on immigrant rights and celebrate the creation of the Bard Immigration Group (BIG). Sponsors: Asian Students Organization (ASO), Difference & Media Project (DMP), Hindu Students Organization (HSO), International Student Organization (ISO), La Voz, Latin American Student Organization (LASO), Student Labor Dialogue (SLD).
