Schumann's Dichterliebe and Britten's Winter Words
Banish the memories of that ridiculously long winter! Come and hear pianist Kayo Iwama and me present a recital of two of the most beautiful song cycles, composed a hundred years apart. We continue our series of Robert Schumann's cycles with "Dichterliebe"(A Poet's Love) Op.48, composed to Heinrich Heine's poetry in 1840, and Benjamin Britten's "Winter Words", his 1953 settings of poems by Thomas Hardy. The recital shouldn't last longer than 45 minutes, including a two-minute break between the cycles, so you'll be out by 1pm.(Bonus points for guessing - before the recital - the significance of the photo above!)I look forward to seeing you there.
