Music Program Presents
Sarah Cahill - guest artist pianist performance
Thursday, October 27, 2016
Bitó Conservatory Building
7:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
The New York Times called her “An intrepid illuminator of the classical avant-garde,” and Citysearch magazine declared her “One of the hundred best things in the Bay Area.” Over the past twenty years, Sarah Cahill has made a reputation as one of the world’s leading interpreters of new piano music, a virtuoso who pours her liquid tone into thoughtful and delicate performances, and who can also shake the piano with forearm clusters when needed. Her repertoire leans toward the experimental yet more accessible side of American music; she’s been heavily involved in Terry Riley’s 80th-birthday celebrations, and has put out recordings of music by Marc Blitzstein, Leo Ornstein, Ruth Crawford, Mamoru Fujieda, Kyle Gann, and also Ravel’s Gaspard de la Nuit. At Bard she will play an all-North American program of works by Kyle Gann, John Halle, Ruth Crawford, George Lewis, Henry Cowell, Ann Southam, Dane Rudhyar, and Samuel Carl Adams.7:00 pm EDT/GMT-4
“If I had my way, Sarah Cahill would be declared a public treasure and forbidden to ever leave the city limits.” - Berkeley Voice
